Knitting & Fibre Tours

Scotland: Sep 18-28 2018.

Includes: bus transportation from Kingston to Pearson and back, round trip flight, all accommodations (most are hotels, Shetland will be a hostel), nine breakfasts, five dinners, four workshops with local knitting experts, Shetland Wool Week (workshops are NOT included), transportation around Scotland, and a variety of sightseeing as outlined below. 

Sep 18 depart Toronto on Air Transat at 11:45 pm arriving in Glasgow Sep 19 at 11:15 am
Sep 29 depart Glasgow on Air Transat at 1 pm arriving in Toronto at 3:20 pm

Day 1: Sep 19
Arrive Glasgow airport, meet your guide and go to your hotel in Edinburgh
En route visit Doune Caste

Day 2: Sep 20
Breakfast at hotel
Morning panoramic city tour of Edinburgh
Workshop with Lucy Hague at Kathy's Knits with tea/coffee and cake
Spend the balance of the day at leisure

Day 3: Sep 21
Depart Edinburgh and head to Dundee
Enroute workshop and talk with Di Gilpin
Visit Scone Palace

Day 4: Sep 22
Breakfast at hotel
This morning depart Dundee and head to the Shetland Islands
Enroute learn about the kilt at Askival of Strathearn
Visit Glamis Castle
Overnight ferry from Aberdeen to Lerwick

Day 5: Sep 23
Breakfast on the ferry
Arrive in Lerwick on the Shetland Islands and meet your coach for the day
Use the coach to attend Shetland Wool Week events. NOTE: each person is responsible for booking their own events
Dinner is arranged at a restaurant within a 10 minute walk from the hostel

Day 6: Sep 24
Breakfast at the hostel in Lerwick area
Spend the day at leisure enjoying Shetland Wool Week
Visit the Shetland Museum & Archives (This is a self guided tour)
Dinner is arranged at a restaurant within a 10 minute walk from the hostel

Day 7: Sep 25
Breakfast at the hostel in Lerwick area
Workshop with Hazel Tindall & Donna Smith 

Day 8: Sep 26
A tour of the island and visit Jarlshof Prehistoric and Norse Settlement
Transfer to Lerwick Port for a 1730 crossing as foot passengers to Kirkwall, Orkney
Arrive at Kirkwall at 2300 and transfer to hotel

Day 9: Sep 27
Breakfast at hotel
Tour of Orkney and visit Ring of BrodgarSkara Brae, and Skaill House
Take the 1645 ferry as foot passengers from Kirkwall to Scrabster
Arrive in Scrabster at 1815 and continue by coach to Inverness

Day 10: Sep 28
Breakfast at hotel
Depart Inverness and head to Glasgow
Enroute enjoy a cruise on Loch Ness
Continue to Glasgow and enjoy a panoramic tour on arrival

Day 11: Sep 29
Breakfast at hotel
Transfer to Glasgow Airport for your journey home
